British Columbia immigration has issued 271 invitations to apply with specific criteria related to the coronavirus outbreak in a new provincial draw,

The April 16 draw saw British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program officials move to exclude occupations in tourism, hospitality, food and beverage services, retail and others where a high-volume of applicants have recently been approved.

“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact B.C.’s economy. Businesses throughout the province have reduced services, laid off staff, and some have closed.,” a BC PNP statement said.

Given the issues, the following were excluded from the April 16 draw:

  • Tourism, hospitality, food and beverage services, retail-related occupations and other select occupations where a high volume of applicants have recently been approved, which include:
  1. 0621 – Retail and wholesale trade managers
  2. 0631 – Restaurant and food service managers
  3. 0632 – Accommodation service managers
  4. 0651 – Managers in customer and personal services, n.e.c.
  5. 1123 – Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations
  6. 1221 – Administrative officers
  7. 1241 – Administrative assistants
  8. 3236 – Massage therapists
  9. 6211 – Retail sales supervisors
  10. 6311 – Foodservice supervisors
  11. 6313 – Accommodation, travel, tourism and related services supervisors
  12. 6321 – Chefs
  13. 6322 – Cooks
  14. 6341 – Hairstylists and barbers
  15. 6421 – Retail salespersons
  16. 6511 – Maîtres d’hôtel and hosts/hostesses
  17. 6512 – Bartenders
  18. 6513 – Food and beverage servers
  19. 6521 – Travel counsellors
  20. 6522 – Pursers and flight attendants
  21. 6523 – Airline ticket and service agents
  22. 6524 – Ground and water transport ticket agents, cargo service representatives and related clerks
  23. 6525 – Hotel front desk clerks
  24. 6531 – Tour and travel guides
  25. 6532 – Outdoor sport and recreational guides
  26. 6533 – Casino occupations
  27. 6562 – Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations
  28. 6564 – Other personal service occupations
  29. 6611 – Cashiers
  30. 6621 – Service station attendants
  31. 6711 – Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations
  32. 6721 – Support occupations in accommodation, travel and facilities set-up services
  33. 6722 – Operators and attendants in amusement, recreation and sport
  34. 6731 – Light duty cleaners

The draw saw invitations issued across five BC PNP categories.

Skilled workers through the direct provincial stream required 100 points to qualify, while Express Entry skilled workers required 105 points.

For the direct provincial international graduate streams, 100 points was the minimum score, with 102 points required for the Express Entry international graduate stream.

Entry-level and semi-skilled workers required a minimum of 85 points.
