Quebec Invites 950 Candidates In First Draws Through New Arrima System

Quebec issued 950 invitations in the first two draws made through its Expression of Interest immigration system, the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) has revealed.

Details of the draws, which took place on July 4 and July 17, were published on the MIDI website on August 20, 2019.

These are the first draws to take place under the system, known as Arrima, which was launched a year ago in August 2018.

The first draws took so long as the governing Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) went about cancelling the backlog of thousands of applications under the old Quebec Skilled Worker Program application system.

The first Arrima draws had specific requirements.

In the July 4 draw, 691 invites were issued to candidate who met the following criteria:

  • Their application to the Quebec Skilled Worker Program under the old system was terminated as part of the governing Coalition Avenir Quebec’s Bill 9.
  • They filed an Arrima Expression of Interest before December 17, 2019.
  • They were in one of the following situations:
    • Their terminated application was submitted pursuant to section 5.01 of the Regulation respecting the selection of foreign nationals, OR
    • They were staying in Quebec on June 16, 2019 while holding a study or work permit.

In the July 17 draw, 259 invites were issued to candidates who met the following criteria:
